Redefining the Women’s Movement In Puerto Rico

At the 2015 Animus Summit, Wesley Cullen moderates a panel consisting of Lizzie Rosso, Katalina Puig and Mariel Lama discuss the initiatives underway to help connect women and elevate them to positions of leadership in business and the public sector.

Wesley Cullen is currently the CXO of the El San Juan Resort & Casino. Until recently, she had been the the GM of the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, an 18,000-seat arena that hosts some 85 events a year. Previously, she managed international live events for World Wrestling Entertainment and produced public rallies, sports and corporate events. Wesley founded the non-profit organization “Super Positivo” to keep our beaches clean. In 2014, Venues Today named her among its “Women of Influence.” Other awards include Caribbean Business’ “Power 100” and ConPRometidos’ “Ideas for Puerto Rico.”

Lizzie Rosso has more than 25 years of experience in strategic, financial and sales planning. She specializes in helping businesses facing financial and other difficulties to reorganize and position themselves for growth. Lizzie is executive director of the local chapter of the Latin American Business Council, board member of Foundation for Puerto Rico, and co-leader of Imagine Santurce’s Economic Development Action Table. She served as president of the Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico, where she provided financing to small and medium businesses and developed plans to attract foreign investment. Previously, she held managerial positions at Doral Bank and Banco Popular.

Katalina Puig is the communications and marketing manager of Para la Naturaleza, a unit of the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico she was hired to launch and rebrand in 2012. The unit promotes environmental conservation and groups all of CTPR’s educational, volunteer, Citizen Scientist and fundraising efforts. Prior to working for CTPR, Katalina was part of the SMG team at the Puerto Rico Convention Center and Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot for four years, running events and creating top-notch experiences for the public.

Mariel Lama has more than 10 years of experience in private equity, investment banking and corporate banking. As portfolio manager at FirstBank Puerto Rico, she manages the bank’s $3 billion corporate portfolio. Mariel previously worked at Advent-Morro Equity Partners, JP Morgan, Banco Popular and Citigroup. She is a founding member and board secretary of Ellevate’s Puerto Rico Chapter. Ellevate is a global professional women’s network with more than 30,000 members in over 100 countries.
